1920’s Kitchen Makeover

This upgraded vintage kitchen bucks the open-concept trend but has great flow, ample storage and (most importantly) works well for the family. Selective modernization allows the space to keep its original charm. See the details of this 1920’s kitchen makeover in this HouzzTV video:

The kitchen originally had four doors opening to other rooms which negatively impacted the traffic flow. To fix the circulation problem, the wall between the laundry room and the kitchen was removed, then all of the doors were moved to one side of the space and the kitchen to the other side.

By keeping the wall between the kitchen and the breakfast nook, the family could add a tall china cabinet that provides extra storage. Raising the ceiling makes the space feel bigger and allowed for higher windows and cabinetry.

A salvaged door, hood and appliances as well as the Carrara marble countertops preserve the kitchen’s vintage charm. Another interesting feature is the butler’s pantry with its overhead skylight.
